Thank you very much for how to teach Sign Language without using mouth to speak words.
I took ASL class back in high school all 4 years. I graduated in 2012.
0:13 (for myself)
I'm quite fascinated by the unique expressive potential of ASL poetry...all these visual & kinetic rather than aural & phonetic axes of cohesion & contrast. Would love a translation into English!
This type of video is great for people like me. I use too many signs. Should use classifiers more often to paint the picture clearly.
The videos with classifiers are my favorite!
I love your facial expressions. I can see why they're important!
I always enjoy your videos!
Thanks Rob, this is great!
Awesome! Thanks Rob!
I love learning classifiers! Thanks Rob!
Love it, thanks Rob!
But like what is he saying tho?
Great video for ASL classifiers too!
Exactly. You get to see the language used naturally with all of its grammar and syntax. Not simply a list of vocabulary signs.
I just subbed as I'm learning ASL and haven't found many who will teach any Islam ASL signs. Can you please teach us more? I've asked many it seems.
Good video brother
Can someone help me with the subtitles
can you translate to spoken English please...

Thank you for this! I really appreciate the little corrections/clarifications as you went along, it made me realize I've been signing my Es too tight. I learned years ago from my mom (who studied to be an interpreter) and got sloppy, so I'm glad this is here as a refresher!
Its been a long while since I took or used ASL. Thanks for the refreshers
Hi, I am an interpreter from Kiribati. Our signs differ greatly from ASL but with the resources available online for ASL, I can gather a little bit of what you're trying to say. However, can you add maybe voice over to your videos. I would also like to know If you are deaf?
29 - It's like MIX at first, then MAX?
Got a little lazy with the "I" on that second one. It was late at night and I was tired. Lol.
Miss your ASL classes teach! Glad I got to learn from you ❤
Glad you enjoyed my classes! Hope you're doing well!
BUENAAAARDO
Thank you!
Thanks!
Very welcome
As you know I’m fluent in ASL. But I don’t see ASL much any more and now have arthritis in my hands. Following your correct form hurt a little bit, but I think it will help keep flexibility in my fingers. I should check out your other recent videos! 🤟🏼
Let's learn some basic greetings and farewells along with a few extra phrases.
I noticed when u did the sign for "pink" u used the middle finger to touch your lips, does it change the meaning if u use the forefinger? Thanks!
Not necesarily. It's simply more correct to use the middle finger. :)
Fun! I like how you showed possible mistakes and corrections.
Glad you liked it!
So nice to “see” you again! I retired from teaching ASL in Southern California, in summer of 2016, and then moved to Scotland for 6 years. Now I’m back in CA, and just now your video popped up in my feed. I hope things are going well!!! Any time I see news about Austin I think of you.
Good to see you as well! Hope you enjoyed your time in Scotland. I'd love to visit Denmark someday.
Cool but why is it popping up for me, this is the complete opposite to what i watch. UA-cam needs to fix the algorithm
Sorry it's not what you're typically into. But I hope you enjoyed it!
Fun!
Awesome video!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it
Awesome!
Looks awesome!
ASL Shorts - The Alphabet Typically the elbow is held near your side and your hand is in line and slightly to the side of your face. ASL shorts - ASL, what is that? Hello! ASL, what is that? Are ASL and English the same? No. They are very different. ASL grammar and English grammar are not the same. Now, is ASL an iconic language? No, it is not. There are some signs such as cup/drinking and car/driving that are iconic (signs that are easy to picture and grasp for non-signers). But ASL itself is not considered an iconic (miming/picture-like) language. When watching ASL are you supposed to be looking at my hands? No. ASL is comprised of the face, the body, the hands, and even the space around the signer. So you need to be paying attention to all of that. Make sure you're learning all of these parts that come together to make up the whole of sign language. That is ASL. #asl #signlanguage #americansignlangauge #aslwithrob
I love this!!!!
New lessons to enjoy! Awesome!

Was lucky enough to have this man as my high school sign teacher! When I meet deaf families or coworkers, they ask where I learned asl and are floored when I tell them "I learned when I was 16". 15 years later, he is still talked about, remembered fondly, and loved by his former students. Thank you for everything, Nuts!
Aw. Thanks kiddo! You're way too sweet. I greatly appreciate that! I'm glad you still use your signing and that I haven't been totally forgotten!
The full translation in the video description is very helpful! Are name-signs used in formal situations, such as a job interview? And does that answer depend on the sign itself? I can see where "R-N" or "tall" would work, but maybe you wouldn't want a potential boss to know (yet) that you drive people nuts. 🙂 Thank you for the video.
Typically you give your name-sign in informal settings within the Deaf community. When meeting someone in the hearing world especially in a formal setting) you would usually only give them your "hearing" name. In this case, I would introduce myself as Rob Nielson. Not Nuts. However, if a potential boss was Deaf and was asking me Deaf-related questions (such as my name-sign) I would share it with him. I like to think I drive people "Nuts" in a good way. ;)
This is so informative and fun. I learned things about name signs that I hadn't seen in other places.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy it and that it was helpful!

😂😂😂😂love this joke😂😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ASLwithRob Im not deaf, and I just only understand filipino sign language, but u present it very easy to understand, thats why I laughed so hard...
That was a fun one! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ewwww!!!!! I'm going to be sick. 😂
Mayo. Ick.
That was so fun!!!
Halloween is a fun holiday
You cracked me up at the beginning with "Calm down, calm down, I'll do it again slower." Your videos are fun as well as informative. There are so many videos out there for beginners or advanced...but nothing I can find for intermediate. Your videos are filling that niche for me. Even though I know the signs you used, I would have been at a loss for how to describe St. Patrickes Day in ASL because as you say ASL and English are very different. Watching you helps me think more visually.
I'm very glad that you find my videos helpful. I'll do my best to keep creating more!
Phew, the Easter story is hard to watch! (i.e. sad...) I stuck it out for the Happy Ending though!
Definitely a very happy ending
